Spirit of Africa is May 10: 12pm-8pm at the Armory Food & Event Hall. The festival is part of the Seattle Center Festál series. It is free and open to the public.
Seattle Center Festál is a year-round series of 25 free cultural festivals, produced in partnership with community organizations. An essential aspect of Mali's music is its role in cultural expression and community cohesion. From griots preserving oral history to vibrant festivals celebrating life's milestones, music is woven into the fabric of Malian society, uniting people in joy, sorrow, and celebration. |

Dawcoumba Diop & Pape Modou Diop All the way from Sweden, it’s a family affair! The brothers will perform with their father, and brother, Thione Diop. Thione Diop is a Senegalese percussionist, master of the djembe and other African percussion instruments, and a descendant of a Griot drumming family. He is known for his powerful and expressive performances, and his ability to connect with audiences through West African music and culture. Thione moved to Seattle in 1998 and has since become a well-known figure in the Pacific Northwest, teaching and performing, and creating events like the Spirit of Africa Festival. |

Franco Attk (Rimnongdo Francis Ramde) Rimnongdo Francis Ramde, better known by his stage name Franco, is a musical artist hailing from Burkina Faso, a country known for its vibrant culture and rich musical traditions. Franco embarked on his musical journey in 2015 as the lead singer for a band in his hometown. Burkina Faso, located in the heart of West Africa, is a land of diverse ethnic groups, each contributing to the country's unique cultural tapestry. |

Anokye Agofomma & Yao Amponsah Anokye has expanded its repertoire by drawing inspiration from and including other West African drumming and dance traditions. Operating with respect, versatility and pure musicianship, Anokye is a multi-cultural and multi-generational group dedicated to promoting world music at its best. The group has performed in the Seattle area on many festive occasions such as Folklife, Spirit of Africa and World Rhythm Festival as well as many events in the broader community. |
