In recognition of the Seattle World’s Fair 60th anniversary, Seattle Center and its resident organizations, several of which are also celebrating anniversaries this year, are commemorating this milestone by celebrating the past 60 years – and creating excitement around what is “New, Now & Next” for Seattle Center.

April 21 Kick-Off Ceremony

Seattle Center kicked off the six-month celebration of its 60th anniversary date on Thursday, April 21st at Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall. The public event featured remarks from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, Seattle Center Director of Programs & Events Chelsea Most, Pacific Northwest Ballet Executive Director Ellen Walker, with performances by Dallas Pinkham, Seattle's youth poet laureate Zinnia Hansen, Seattle Opera, and DJ Mike Steve.

World's Largest Cake Coloring Contest

Did you know the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair was also home to the world’s largest cake? It weighed 25,000 pounds and was 23 feet tall and was made to celebrate Paul Bunyon’s birthday. From April 21 through May 22, 2022 we offered a coloring contest featuring that cake to celebrate our anniversary. The public was invited to submit their coloring page as an entry for the contest. A winner was randomly picked each week starting Monday May 2 until Monday May 23 to win a small prize and have their art featured on our Facebook page. You can still view the submissions there!

Galaxy Golden Ticket Social Media Contest

Seattle Center awarded 60 2-pack Galaxy Golden Tickets in 2 social media contests. These provided free single-day access for a winner and a guest on April 21st to select Seattle Center attractions including the Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, Seattle Center Monorail, and Chihuly Garden and Glass. Winners were chosen in a random drawing. Contest 1: Facebook: Share a 60th birthday with the Seattle World’s Fair? If you were born between April 21 and October 21, 1962, share a photo or memory of you at the World’s Fair or Seattle Center on our Facebook Post on Wednesday, Apr 13 using the hashtag #seattlecenter60 Contest 2: IG: Have a favorite memory to share about a fun experience at Seattle Center?
