Frequently asked by Parents & Guardians
Can I accompany my teen to the box office without purchasing a ticket?
Sure! If you just want to help your teen through the ticket-buying process but not actually go in to see the show, that’s just fine. You’re more than welcome to accompany them to the box office, even if you’re not purchasing a ticket for yourself. Once they get past the usher who is tearing tickets, however, they’re on their own.
Can parents get $5 tickets too?
Yes! On Sundays (at our performing arts organizations) and Thursdays (at our museum organizations), Teen Tix tickets are 2 for $10, so your teen can bring you along. On all other days, parents must pay full price, or whatever the regular rush ticket price is.
How can I be sure that my teen will get in to see the show?
Because Teen Tix is a rush ticket program, tickets are sold on a space available basis. That means, ticket availability is not guaranteed. It is always possible that a show will sell out and no Teen Tix tickets will be available. That’s why we strongly encourage teens and parents to call the
Participating Organizations
box office on the day that you want to go and either purchase your tickets over the phone, or ask if they expect to have rush tickets available for the performance that you wish to see. Most of the time, ticket offices have a good idea of how many rush tickets they will have available for any given performance.
How can I be sure the content will be appropriate for my teen?
As with all art forms, programming presented by our
Participating Organizations
may contain violence, nudity, sexual content, profanity or other potentially offensive material. Teen Tix’s policy on content is as follows:
Participating Organizations
are responsible for judging content appropriateness and providing Teen Tix with information on any potentially offensive content. Teen Tix will, in turn, make that information available in all of our promotional materials. Teen Tix cannot, however, take responsibility for the content of individual arts programs. Additionally, because the Teen Tix pass is good for every show or exhibit in a
Participating Organization's
season, teenagers may still have access to programs that Teen Tix has chosen not to promote based on content. Parents and teens who are concerned about content should contact the presenting organization directly to discuss those concerns before attending a show or exhibit.
How can I receive the newsletter?
Parents and guardians of Teen Tix members, teachers, youth leaders, and other adults who want to receive the Teen Tix newsletter can sign up
here.
How can I use Teen Tix to bring a group of teenagers to see a show?
Teen Tix works best for individuals or pairs of teenagers, but it can work for groups, too. First, make sure that all of the teens who you want to bring are registered for Teen Tix and have their passes. Passes can take up to two weeks to come in the mail, so plan ahead. Next, call the
Participating Organization's
box office and ask them what night would be a good night to bring a group. Usually, they have a good sense for which nights of the week tend to sell out, and they can recommend a night when there are likely to be plenty of rush tickets available. Lastly, get your group together, come on down, and enjoy the show! Remember that, as an adult, you’ll need to pay full price or whatever the regular rush ticket price is.
I am the parent or guardian of a home schooler who doesn't have school ID or a Driver's License. Wha
Since Teen Tix passes are not barcoded or tracked, our ticket offices are empowered to ask for proof of eligibility from any person attempting to use a Teen Tix pass. Therefore, it's important for your child to have some form of ID with them when they purchase tickets using their Teen Tix pass. Many home school agencies and resource centers can provide an identification card that is comparable to a school ID, and will serve as sufficient proof of age for the Teen Tix program. The other option is for your child to get a Washington State ID card, which is available to residents of all ages, and carries a birthdate.
So, what if I want to see the show with my teen on a day other than Sunday?
Most of our
Participating Organizations
have regular rush tickets that are available to the general public. So, you could purchase a regular rush ticket while your teen purchases a Teen Tix ticket. Regular rush ticket prices range from $10 to 50% off, and are generally available 30 to 90 minutes before show time. Check with the
Participating Organization's
box offices for details on their rush ticket programs.
Frequently asked by Teens
Can I buy more than one ticket?
Generally, you can only purchase one ticket with your Teen Tix pass. However, we do offer 2 for $10 days on Sundays at performing arts venues, and Thursdays at our museum partners. On these days, any Teen Tix member can purchase a second $5 ticket, and give to anyone they want, a parent, sibling, friend or whomever! Also for Teen Tix Special Events, you may be allowed to purchase two tickets with your pass, which would enable you to bring an adult along for the same low price that you pay. Check the website for Teen Tix Special Event announcements.
Can I buy my ticket in advance?
No. Teen Tix is a day-of rush ticket program. You can only purchase your ticket on the day of the show that you want to see. The only exception to this is for Teen Tix Special Events. Check the website and newsletter for a special event announcements.
Can I buy my ticket over the phone?
Yes! Many of our Participating Organizations accept over the phone sales. You can call their box offices on the day of the show that you want to go see and purchase a Teen Tix ticket over the phone. You will still need to show your Teen Tix pass and ID when you pick it up. Please see the Teen Tix
Participating Organization
listing for more info on which orgs accept phone sales.
Can I make reservations?
No. Teen Tix tickets are sold on a first come, first-served basis starting when the box office opens on the day of the show ONLY. You cannot reserve tickets.
Do I need to live in Seattle in order to sign up?
Nope. Anyone, from anywhere, can sign up and use the pass as long as they are 13-19 years old.
Don’t you have to dress up to go to these places?
No. You can dress up if you want to, and you’ll probably see some people who look pretty fancy when you go, but it’s not a requirement. In fact, one of the nicest things about the arts scene here in Seattle is that it’s pretty casual – it’s about enjoying the art, not being in a fashion show! So wear what you’re comfortable in…just keep your feet off the seats.
How do I find out what’s playing?
As a Teen Tix member, you will automatically be subscribed to our weekly email newsletter, which will tell you about all of the great stuff you can go see with your Teen Tix pass. Additionally, the Teen Tix website has event listings that are constantly updated. You can also check
Participating Organizations
websites to find out what’s going on.

I registered for Teen Tix and received a pass, but I’ve never received the e-newsletters. What’s up?

I registered for Teen Tix but never received my pass. What’s up?
If it’s been two weeks or less, your pass is probably on the way – there are only a few of us and so many of you, sometimes it takes us a little while, but it’s coming, we swear! So, how can I be sure there will be tickets available?
We can’t make any guarantees, but we can get pretty close. If you’re concerned that there won’t be tickets available for the show you want to see, the best thing to do is call the box office and ask. They usually have a very good idea about how many rush tickets will be available on any given night, and they’re more than happy to help. The phone numbers are listed on the
Participating Organizations
, which are linked from the Teen Tix page.
Um, the description says that Teen Tix is good for visual art, but I don’t see many museums or galle
Good question! Here at Teen Tix Headquarters, we’re working hard on adding more arts venues all over the city to our program. So, soon, you should be able to go to museums and galleries, as well as other dance, theatre, music and independent film venues for five bucks with your Teen Tix pass. Stay tuned!
What if I want to bring an adult with me?
On Sundays, you can buy a second ticket for $5 and anyone, including an adult, can use it! On all other days adults don’t qualify for the Teen Tix discount (it’s for teens, after all), but most of our
Participating Organizations
already discount their rush tickets, so the adult who is with you may be able to purchase a regular rush ticket for a vastly reduced price. Check out the individual venues’ websites or call their box offices to get their regular rush ticket prices.
What is Teen Tix?
Teen Tix is a free arts-access pass that allows teenagers to purchase $5 rush tickets to theatre, dance, music, film, literary and visual art.
What’s the point of all this?
The point is that art is valuable, and it’s for everyone. An arts-going community is a healthy community, and we think that means that everyone should have access to high quality arts programming, regardless of age.
