MARTIN SCHOELLER: CLOSE-UP
Through Feb. 16 EMP Museum
Martin Schoeller: Close-Up
What do Barack Obama, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Kanye West, and Andre Agassi have in common?

Martin Schoeller’s large-scale photographic headshots place some of the most recognizable faces from the world of rock, cinema, the sports field, and the political podium alongside American teens and tribesmen from Tanzania and the Amazon. By placing nearly 50 of his hyper-detailed subjects on the same level, Schoeller underscores the human connection between us all.

EMP will be the exhibit’s only West Coast stop and the final destination on the world tour.

"A photographic close-up is perhaps the purest form of portraiture, creating a confrontation between the viewer and the subject that daily interaction makes impossible, or at least impolite."
Martin Schoeller
