Sand Mandela Creation, Traditional Dances and BBC Film Highlight Tibet Fest
Seattle Center Festál: Tibet Fest, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., Aug. 25 - 26, in Seattle Center Armory and Fisher Pavilion, explores the cultural roots and contemporary influences of Tibet through live performances, cultural displays, hands-on activities, foods, children’s activities, and a lively marketplace.
Join in a circle dance, witness the creation of a Sand Mandala for world peace by Drepung Loseling monks from India. Drepung Monastery is one of the three great monasteries around Lhasa and now re-established in south India. Have your child learn to make a paper lantern with Tibetan motives. Watch traditional dances from the “roof of the world” performed by Portland's Tibetan dance troupe as well as students from Seattle's Sunday Tibetan Language and Culture Class. Get your Christmas shopping done early at the Himalayan Bazaar showcasing beautiful jewelry, carpets, clothing, scraves, shawls, books, and more. Have you seen the film "The Lost World of Tibet" produced by BBC? If not, please take this opportunity to see it and other films at Tibet Fest.
The 20 Seattle Center Festál cultural celebrations highlight the common forms of tradition and expression among ethnic communities in the Pacific Northwest, while underscoring their unique creative contributions, customs, foods and ideals. Each event offers moving entertainment and fascinating insight into a different culture of the world.
