The Tree Replacement Plan was funded in the City's 2007-08 budget and was planned in conjunction with the City's 2007 Urban Forest Management Plan. It includes the removal of declining and/or diseased trees and the replacement of trees lost in the wind storms of the last two years. The newly planted trees, though small at the current time, will significantly improve the tree canopy and meet or exceed the age and species diversity goals of the Urban Forest Management Plan. The species of the new trees, chosen by our arborists, took into account the light and growing conditions of their sites to ensure optimum success. Our tree replacement plan includes funding for the extra-care, two-year maintenance period, implemented by our gardening staff, to ensure that these young trees thrive.
We believe our trees are among the most loved and cared for trees in the City. We will continue to treasure and protect this valuable community resource so these trees will be enjoyed for generations to come.
