Starbucks
Thank you to our season sponsor, Starbucks Coffee Company, the official coffee of McCaw Hall.
Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at Seattle Center is the region's premier performance venue. McCaw Hall opened in June 2003 as a $127 million renovation of the Seattle Opera House, made possible by a partnership between the Hall's two world-class resident performing arts tenants, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera, Seattle Center and the Seattle Center Foundation. This partnership secured $55 million in public funds and over $72 million in private philanthropic gifts to make the Hall a reality. The Hall is owned by the City of Seattle and operated by Seattle Center, in accordance with a unique 25-year Operating Agreement with its resident tenants, which provides them with on-going oversight and shared responsibility for its operations and budget.

McCaw Hall includes the state-of-the-art 2,900-seat Susan Brotman Auditorium, the 380-seat Nesholm Family Lecture Hall, Prelude Café, elegant lobbies fronted by a luminous five-story serpentine glass wall, two beautiful donor/special function rooms, and a 17,800-square-foot public plaza (the Kreielsheimer Promenade) that serves as an entry into McCaw Hall and the Seattle Center campus. Designed by local architectural firm LMN, the Hall's design emphasizes elegance balanced with flexibility and functionality. Its open, airy lobbies strive to minimize the separation between exterior and interior, inviting the community to view and join the anticipation of audiences prior to a performance. As well, the Hall incorporates a number of environmentally sustainable design features which minimize its use of resources, waste generation and carbon footprint.

Each year the Ballet and Opera present approximately 150 performances in McCaw Hall. In addition, the Hall hosts two productions of the Seattle Men's Chorus annually, as well as a wide range of popular music concerts, lectures, corporate meetings, receptions, weddings, festival performances, and community and non-profit events. In 2007 McCaw Hall embarked on a multi-year partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival Group ("SIFF") to create SIFF Cinema in the Nesholm Family Lecture Hall. SIFF presents nearly 500 film screenings in the Lecture Hall throughout the year, in addition to it serving as one of the main venues for SIFF's 3-week annual film festival in May/June. At the same time, the Lecture Hall remains the site of the Ballet and Opera's pre and post performance lectures, as well as an active rental venue for corporate and community meetings.

Dining and Concessions
In the summer of 2008, McCaw Hall selected "SAVOR . . . a division of SMG" as our exclusive food and beverage provider. SMG is a worldwide leader in the management and operations of stadiums, arenas, convention centers and performing arts centers, and we are pleased to partner with their award-winning culinary division, SAVOR, to provide innovative, high quality food and beverage services for our performances and catered events.

SAVOR operates Prelude Cafe, conveniently located at the south end of the Kreielsheimer Promenade (entry level lobby), which offers full-meal service before performances, and snacks, beverages and desserts during intermissions. Renowned local chef Kelly Gaddis creates and executes Prelude's seasonal menus focused on fresh, local ingredients, complemented by selections of wine by the glass and half or full bottle. In addition to a range of appetizers, dinner entrées and desserts for evening performances, Prelude also serves a fantastic Sunday brunch buffet prior to Sunday matinee performances.

Prelude opens 2.5 hours prior to performances. To help us ensure your best experience prior to curtain, we encourage you to make reservations by calling 206-615-0404 or by visiting SAVOR at McCaw Hall, where you'll also find current menu information.

In addition to Prelude, SAVOR operates concessions pre-show and during intermission on all lobby levels, including a wine bistro at the south end of the Grand Lobby. A wide variety of beverages (alcoholic and non), including Starbucks coffee and espresso, light meal options, savory and sweet snacks, and dessert items are available. Please note that food and beverages are not allowed in the auditorium.

SAVOR accepts pre-orders from Prelude and at all concession stands pre-show for intermission, to allow you to enjoy your beverage, snack or dessert without having to wait in lines to order.

"Amusements" Gift Shop
Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera jointly operate "Amusements" gift shop, next to the McCaw Hall box office in the Kreielsheimer Promenade (entry level lobby). The gift shop is open 2.5 hours prior to and during intermission for all Ballet and Opera performances. The shop offers a range of ballet and opera related books, CDs, DVDs, posters, clothing, jewelry, toys, holiday decorations, as well as items specific to the current production. All "Amusement" proceeds support Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera.

McCaw Hall sustainable design features
McCaw Hall incorporates a number of design features and operational systems to minimize energy and water use, landfill waste and the building's carbon footprint. The main lobby glass wall utilizes a series of shades, operable windows and exhaust fans to reduce solar-induced heat gain, rather than having to rely on conventional air conditioning. This has allowed the lobby ventilation system to be approximately 20% smaller, and allows us to cool the lobby using approximately 30% less energy than would typically be required in a similar sized/designed space. The main auditorium and orchestra pit utilizes a "displacement" ventilation system, which supplies tempered air from the floor, close to the patron and musicians, rather from the ceiling as in conventional designs. As we are only controlling temperature where people are, rather than in the entire volume of this large space, energy use is approximately 25% less than in a similar sized auditorium with a conventional heating and ventilation system. The lobby restrooms have ultra-low water flow urinals and hands-free faucets, which reduce water use significantly. We've installed efficient compact fluorescent and LED lights throughout the lobbies. We have a small solar panel array on the south-facing lobby wall that generates between 4.5 and 6 KW of electricity on most days. Finally, we have a comprehensive system to minimize recyclables and food waste from the building going into landfills.
