Did you know …
South Asia is a diverse region of many languages, dialects, people and cultures. The region includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Some of the world’s most basic concepts originated in this region, including the number zero.
And the world’s first sewer and drainage system was created by the Indus Valley civilization in India and Pakistan in 3500 B.C.
The world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest, straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet.

Utsav South Asian Performing Arts Festival presents the best in local and international talent steeped in the traditional and classical arts of South Asia. Strings, flutes, drums and dances from various South Asian countries highlight the talented artists of the Northwest. Ancient and modern, vocal and instrumental music and a tremendous variety of dance styles and their rhythmic foot beats convey the deep connections of Seattle’s growing South Asian community to these countries’ art forms. Presented by Ragamala, a performing arts organization.

Seattle Center Festál, a series of 22 world festivals presented at Seattle Center on weekends throughout 2010, highlights the distinct cultures and common threads of ethnic communities in our region through traditional and contemporary art, music, foods, youth activities, workshops and more.
