Dia de Muertos - A Mexican Remembrance to Remember Our Departed
Dia de Muertos - A Mexican Remembrance to Remember Our Departed

October 30-31, 2010
Center House

Saludos

Dia de Muertos or “Day of the Dead” joins together tradition, culture and art.  It is a celebration where remembering our departed is to remember what has been our history. It is to keep alive the very deepest of our roots, where indigenous and Spanish roots intertwine in traditional community altars, sugar skulls, sand painting, special foods, candles, processions, music and dance. Presented by Taller Mexicano para la Cultura y las Artes.

Colors of the Mexican Culture: Green (the green of the fields), white (the snow of the volcanos that signifies purity), and red (the blood of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for liberty).  Most Popular Foods: Foods that have both an Indigenous and European influence, for example, Mole, Pozole, Tamales, and different stews prepared with Chilis.  Greatest Source of Cultural Pride:  The very deep historical and cultural roots that we have in our indigenous pueblos.  Livelihood: Mexico is the 12th largest economy in the world, driven by agriculture, and food and beverage products, aerospace, electronics, tobacco, chemicals, iron and steel, petroleum, biotech, textiles, clothing, motor vehicles and parts, consumer durables, and tourism and ecotourism.

Seattle Center Festál, a series of 22 world festivals presented at Seattle Center on weekends throughout 2010, highlights the distinct cultures and common threads of ethnic communities in our region through traditional and contemporary art, music, foods, youth activities, workshops and more. This collection of cultural events is produced with the generous support of Wells Fargo, Verizon Wireless, KUOW 94.9 Public Radio and Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Additional support is provided by Seattle Center Foundation and the City of Seattle.
