With internationally acclaimed folk dance ensembles, musicians, visiting artists and intricate costumes, this festival provides a glimpse inside this rich culture that is one of the last undiscovered treasures of Europe. Did you know?

The Speaker of the Washington State Legistlative House is Frank Chopp, representing the State’s 43rd district since 1995. Chopp is Croatian on both sides of his family. His father was born to Croatian immigrants in Roslyn, Washington, and Chopp was raised in Bremerton. His social conscience appeared early in life when he led a high school protest against the local Elks Club’s refusal to allow black members. He was also active in social causes at the University of Washington, where he graduated in 1975. Chopp was the longtime Executive Director of the Fremont Public Association, and he has been Speaker of the State House since 2001. His legislative priorities include safety and security, education and job training, and improving transportation and government services to foster a competitive and fair economic climate.

Seattle Center Festál, a series of 22 world festivals presented at Seattle Center on weekends throughout 2010, highlights the distinct cultures and common threads of ethnic communities in our region through traditional and contemporary art, music, foods, youth activities, workshops and more. This collection of cultural events is produced with the generous support of Wells Fargo, Verizon Wireless, KUOW 94.9 Public Radio and Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Additional support is provided by Seattle Center Foundation and the City of Seattle.
